Pushkar Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, has ordered the establishment of temporary rehabilitation centres for evacuees due to a looming crisis in Joshimath and panic among residents. In light of increasing landslides and deep cracks in the concrete, roads, and infrastructure of Joshimath, residents have been fleeing the area.

In the latest development, CM Pushkar Dhami directed that temporary accommodation should be set up in safer zones at the earliest. Also, he requested officials to plan evacuation sectors and zones. According to the Uttarakhand chief minister, immediate evacuation should be carried out in danger zones. The Uttarakhand authorities have been asked to alert the disaster department and activate the disaster control room in Joshimath as soon as possible.

An evacuation began Thursday after Joshimath residents became fearful and panicked. As a result of repeated landslides, people were forced to sleep outside their homes in the chilly winter in fear of roof collapse. Many believe that Joshimath is headed for disaster or doomed due to the rapid growth of cracks and crevices in its structures.

The secretary of disaster management, Ranjit Sinha, told ANI that a survey revealed new cracks in previously safe locations, tilted hotels, and emerging new water sources.

"Water coming from underground is dangerous as it creates a vacuum, causing sinking. We've got to evacuate and relocate those affected. We've got to regulate and have strict building bylaws. In the future, we will issue a government order on the types of housing that should be built in this area."

CM Dhami assured the hill state's populace that necessary arrangements were being made and that he would visit the area shortly.

I will meet top officials in Dehradun today regarding landslides in Joshimath and cracks in houses. I will visit Joshimath tomorrow and take stock of the situation. A BJP team has also been sent," said Dhami.

At 6,000 feet in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, Joshimath is one of the towns on the route to Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib. So far, 561 houses have developed cracks in different areas of the town.

Additionally, protests have been growing against NTPC projects, which may have contributed to the town's gradual fall. The District Disaster Management Department told news agency ANI that cracks have developed in 561 houses in Joshimath as a result of continued land subsidence.

Land subsidence in Joshimath led to a unique protest in Joshimath as people carried torches and took to the streets to protest. They were shouting slogans against a public sector energy conglomerate in Joshimath, blaming its project for their worsening situation. As several houses in Joshimath developed deep cracks, people blocked the Badrinath highway, leaving them in a panicked state.
