The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in Telangana due to extremely heavy rainfall, with significant impacts being felt across the state. As of September 1, 2024, the highest recorded rainfall was in Kakarvai, Khammam district, which received an astonishing 52.1 cm of rain. This deluge has prompted the government to issue a flash flood risk warning for 19 districts, with red alerts declared in nine of them and orange alerts in an additional 12 districts

In light of the severe weather conditions, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy have directed officials from the Irrigation Department to prepare plans for managing the substantial inflow of water into river basins. Transportation Disruptions

Approximately 20 trains have been halted between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, stranding thousands of passengers. The South Central Railway (SCR) has taken measures to assist those affected, arranging special trains to transport stranded passengers to destinations such as Chennai, Tirupati, and Visakhapatnam
