The Haryana assembly elections, scheduled for October 5, 2024, have seen a flurry of activity as several prominent political figures filed their nominations on September 12. Among them were Congress leader Randeep Surjewala's son Aditya Surjewala, who filed papers from the Kaithal constituency, and BJP's Shruti Choudhry, the granddaughter of former Chief Minister Bansi Lal, who submitted her nomination from Tosham.

Savitri Jindal, the mother of Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal, also filed her papers along with numerous other candidates. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) was represented by Abhay Chautala, who filed his nomination from Ellenabad.

BJP and Congress Candidates in Key Constituencies
The ruling BJP fielded several candidates, including minister Mahipal Dhanda, who submitted his papers from Panipat Rural. Former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan, a Congress candidate, filed his nomination from the Panchkula seat.

The Congress, which is seeking to challenge the BJP's hold on the state, has been actively announcing its candidates. In its fourth list, the party named Parimal Pari for Ambala Cantt, Sachin Kundu for Panipat Rural, Satbir Dublain for Narwana (SC), Sarva Mitra Kamboj for Rania, and Rohit Nagar for Tigaon.

Aam Aadmi Party's Presence

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has been making inroads in Haryana, has also been fielding candidates. The party released its sixth list of 19 candidates, bringing its total to 89 out of the 90 assembly seats.

Dissolution of Haryana Assembly

Ahead of the elections, the Haryana Assembly was dissolved on September 12 to prevent a potential constitutional crisis. Governor Bandaru Dattatreya acted on the recommendation of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's council of ministers to dissolve the House early.

Conclusion

The filing of nominations marks a significant milestone in the electoral process, as parties finalize their candidates in a competitive political environment. The Haryana assembly elections are expected to be a closely watched contest, with the BJP seeking to retain power and the Congress and AAP aiming to make gains.
