According to the media report, 135 incumbent members of the Congress have tested positive, with 78 tested positive this year, an “eye-popping” number on Capitol Hill.

The article pointed out that new cases began to soar since March 1, as COVID control restrictions have been loosened in an increasing number of areas across the States.

On the first day of March alone, six lawmakers tested positive, said the report.

Meanwhile, cluster infections started to hit the White House as well as Capitol Hill in recent days, with many of them having attended the exclusive Gridiron Dinner in Washington on April 6, which gathered over 500 political figures, businessmen and media workers.

The club later said in an email that 80 of the participants tested positive following the elite event.

The report also said experts have warned that there will be another spike of new infections in the next few weeks in the country following the soaring number of politicians contracting the virus.
