They have been employed through contracts for gardening work in the township area of the project. The laborers expressed their grievances by shouting slogans against the responsible authorities. Eventually, they ended their protest after receiving assurances from higher officials regarding the payment of their dues

NTPC Rihand Project Workers Protest Over Unpaid Wages

Workers employed at the NTPC Rihand project, who are displaced residents from villages like Dodhar, Bijpur, and Sirsooti, staged a protest due to non-payment of their wages. They have been hired through contractors for gardening work in the township area of the project. The laborers expressed their grievances by shouting slogans against the responsible authorities. Eventually, they ended their protest after receiving assurances from higher officials regarding the payment of their dues.

The workers claimed that they had written to the NTPC management seeking payment of their wages and various benefits, but their concerns were not addressed. Laborers like Ishwar Prasad, Shivnarayan, Ramraksha Yadav, Manoj Kumar, Pannelal, Suraj Kumar, Amaranath, Shyama, Kalavati, Sita Devi, Paan Kunwar, Ponam, Dasrath, Ajay Kumar, Sitaram, Santram, and others stated that the non-payment of wages for the past three months has led to a financial crisis for them and their families.

In this regard, NTPC's Deputy General Manager Sunil Baske stated that they make payments to the contractors after receiving payment note sheets. He assured that the workers' other grievances would also be addressed. After receiving these assurances, the workers called off their protest
