LUCKNOW: Lucknow University Teacher's Association (LUTA) have announced to stage a protest if the state government fails to implement the recent high court directive related to increasing teachers' retirement age from 62 to 65 years. LUTA has also asked the University to scrap the system of releasing teachers' salaries after biometric attendance verification.

The resolution to this effect was passed in the general body meeting on Wednesday. "We will stage a protest if the high court directive related to increasing the retirement age is not implemented," said LUTA president Prof Vineet Verma.
"We will hold talks and give our memorandum of demands. If action is not taken, we will protest," Verma said. On linking teachers' salaries with biometric attendance, Verma said that the system must be scrapped as it is against the dignity of teachers and way too humiliating for them to do so.

"A teacher's attendance is first verified by the respective head and then it is forwarded to the registrar and thereafter to the finance officer before the salaries are released. What is the point of an online attendance system when so much of the register work for verification has already been done," he said
