Police Recover Stolen Motorcycles, Arrest Suspect in Maharajganj

Maharajganj 07 September (desk):-On Saturday, the Thuthibari and Nichlaul police made a significant breakthrough in a motorcycle theft case, arresting a suspect and recovering five stolen bikes. The accused, identified as Jitendra Sahani from Chainpur village under Kothibhar police station, was caught during a routine police patrol. The suspect led the police to a sugarcane field where four additional stolen motorcycles were hidden. According to the police, Sahani had been involved in stealing motorcycles, altering their number plates, and selling them across the border in Nepal.

The incident unfolded when a police patrol stopped Sahani at midnight on Thursday at Khesarha Farm Chauraha in Lalpur village. Upon being questioned, Sahani became nervous, which raised suspicion. After a thorough interrogation, he admitted that the bike he was riding was stolen. His confession led to the discovery of the other stolen vehicles, which were hidden in a nearby sugarcane field. Along with the motorcycles, police also seized ₹16,000 in cash and two mobile phones from the suspect.

Police further revealed that Sahani had been changing the registration numbers of the stolen motorcycles using forged number plates to avoid detection. An investigation using the e-challan app confirmed that the registration numbers on the seized vehicles did not match their actual records, confirming that they were tampered with. Sahani had planned to smuggle these bikes into Nepal for sale. The authorities have filed multiple charges against him under various sections of the law, and he has been sent to jail pending trial.

In addition to the current charges, Sahani has a criminal history, with several cases registered against him in the Nichlaul police station and other areas, including Kushinagar district. The police are now investigating whether he was part of a larger network involved in cross-border smuggling of stolen vehicles. The successful recovery of the bikes and the arrest of the suspect is a significant step towards curbing vehicle thefts in the region, and authorities are committed to bringing all involved to justice.
