For millions of people across the world, the biggest emotional support during COVID-19 came from staying at home with their pets. India, being the fastest growing pet care market in the world, also saw a huge rise in pet adoption during the pandemic. Among several pet care startups and companies, in India, ThePetNest stands apart due to its quest for transforming the pet care landscape by establishing an organised pet care market in the country.

“We have over 800 veterinary doctors and more than 1000 pet groomers who work on a commission basis, earning much more than what they would have on their own. ThePetNest not only provides online pet consultation but also offers home visits by vets and groomers, as pet parents can save themselves the hassle of pet salon visits. Most people opted for online pet care during the pandemic to prevent any risk of getting an infection while visiting a pet salon. The pet care market in India is a sleeping giant and we are aiming to tap the huge market through technology and innovation,” said Mr Chandrakant Yadav - Chief Marketing Officer, ThePetNest

The company is soon going to launch a dedicated app that will cover anything and everything around pet care, be it pet insurance or rehoming abandoned pets. It was observed during the pandemic that some people started abandoning their pets due to rampant misinformation on pets' immunity and COVID-19 infection.

“As a pet care company, we realized that it is our responsibility to educate people and dispel rumors regarding pets and COVID-19. We launched awareness campaigns in this regard and counseled pet parents on the same. Apart from that, we have already trained over 200 groomers, with many of them now working with us. In this way, we also created job opportunities in the pandemic phase when lakhs of people lost their jobs. In this way, we provided the right platform to thousands of pet care service providers and helped them reach their full potential through the platform,” said Mr Chandrakant Yadav - Chief Marketing Officer, ThePetNest.

As the demand for pet adoption and grooming peaked during the pandemic, the company itself registered a 30 percent rise in the demand for its services. As per industry experts, millennial pet owners make up 31 percent of pet owners in India. Millennial pet owners use technology to purchase products and services for their pets and this is where ThePetNest wants to capture the market through its innovative service model.
