The Supreme Court on Tuesday said no coercive action should be taken against suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma in FIRs registered so far and also cases, which could be registered in the future in connection with her remarks on Prophet Mohammad during a TV debate.

“Meanwhile, as an interim measure it is directed that no coercive shall be taken against Nupur Sharma pursuant to the impugned FIRs, a bench comprising of Justices Surya Kant and J.B. Pardiwala said. It added that it never wanted Nupur Sharma to visit every court for relief.

In its order today it issued notices to states like Delhi, West Bengal, and Maharashtra on plea of Nupur Sharma posting the matter for hearing on August 10.

Suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma Monday moved the Supreme Court with a fresh plea urging protection from arrest as well as the revival of her withdrawn petition seeking clubbing of FIRs lodged in several states over her remarks on the Prophet.
