The following day, on 30th August, Shahzad's family received a call from someone demanding a ransom of three lakh rupees. The caller used a woman's voice to conceal their identity, leading the family to believe that Shahzad had been kidnapped. The police later revealed that Shahzad and Suraj were friends who had gone to a railway warehouse the previous evening. An argument broke out between the two when Shahzad allegedly took around 100 rupees from Suraj's pocket. In a fit of rage, Suraj struck Shahzad's head against a gutter, leaving him unconscious. Suraj returned home but revisited the scene later, only to find Shahzad dead. Fearing arrest, Suraj hid Shahzad's body in nearby bushes.

In a desperate attempt to escape the town, Suraj planned to extort money from Shahzad's family before fleeing Baraut. However, the police were already closing in on him. Using phone location data, they traced Shahzad's last known location near the railway station. Before Suraj could execute his plan, the police arrested him, and he confessed to the crime during interrogation.

The authorities are now ensuring that the case is handled with due diligence, as Shahzad's family considers changing the complainant. The police are working with higher officials to address the family's concerns and proceed with the case transparently.
