Nine Convicted for 2012 Murders, Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

Baghpat 05 September (desk):-In a significant judgment, a court sentenced nine individuals to life imprisonment for the brutal killing of four people, including a pregnant woman, in Assara village in August 2012. The convicted individuals were also fined, with one paying ₹50,000 and the others fined ₹40,000 each. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional year of imprisonment.

The case was initially filed by Mohammad Naseem at the Ramala police station on August 12, 2012. According to his complaint, on the night of August 11, his family was sleeping when local residents Shakil, Abbas, Ilyas, Shaukeen, and an unknown individual entered their home with firearms and sharp weapons. They shot his eight-month-pregnant sister-in-law, Sajida, and severely injured his brother Akhlaq with knives. His sister Gulshana and mother Shabeela were also shot, while his father, Abloo Hasan, was fatally shot in a nearby tower cabin. Naseem's father and sister died on the spot, while Sajida and his mother succumbed to their injuries the next day at a hospital in Meerut.

The police investigation identified the accused as Shakil, Abbas, Ilyas, Shaukeen, Moharram, and an unknown individual. Further investigations revealed the involvement of Randeera alias Ramzan and Deepak alias Naseeb from Samalkha in Panipat district, as well as Moharram and Salim from Harsoli, Muzaffarnagar. After a prolonged trial, all nine were found guilty of the murders.

On Thursday, the judge handed down life sentences to Shakil, Abbas, Ilyas, Shaukeen, Moharram, Randeera alias Ramzan, Deepak alias Naseeb, and Salim. The court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on Shakil and ₹40,000 on each of the remaining convicts. The case’s conclusion marks a significant moment in the long-standing legal proceedings, offering some justice to the grieving family.
