A 31-year-old individual with a travel history tested positive for Monekypox in Kerala’s Kannur district, govt officials said, confirming it to be the second case of monkeypox in the state as well as the country.

landed at the Mangalore airport in coastal Karnataka from Dubai on July 13. Shortly after presenting symptoms, he was isolated and samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV). As per the information given by local sources, the patient is currently being treated at Pariyaram Medical College. Others suspected as close contacts are under observation.

Interacting with the media, state health minister Veena George said-The 31-year-old man from Kannur is currently undergoing treatment at Pariyaram Medical College. The patient’s health condition is reported to be satisfactory. Those in close contact with him have been put under surveillance,”
