IND vs SL highlights: India's Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj delivered scorching fast bowling in their World Cup clash against Sri Lanka, igniting an electrifying encounter and propelling the undefeated hosts to a resounding 302-run victory on Thursday. With this win, India became the first team to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

This triumph marked India's seventh consecutive victory in this year's 50-over tournament and arguably their most dominant performance. Sri Lanka's batters could only withstand under 20 overs while pursuing a daunting 358-run target.

For Sri Lanka, this loss all but extinguished their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages, as Kusal Mendis's side suffered their fifth defeat in seven matches.

Sri Lanka's chase began on a disastrous note as Jasprit Bumrah struck with the very first delivery. Following that, Mohammed Siraj took the next three wickets, leaving Sri Lanka at four for three runs.

Subsequently, Mohammed Shami joined the assault, securing a five-wicket haul that propelled India's unstoppable momentum. Shami finished with figures of 5-18, while Siraj contributed with 3-16. Sri Lanka was eventually dismissed for a mere 55 runs, marking their lowest total in a 50-over World Cup.

India's batting performance was equally formidable, with Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill both notching commanding fifties and combining for a 189-run partnership for the second wicket. Their efforts led the hosts to a total of 357 for eight.

After Kohli and Gill fell in quick succession to left-arm quick Dilshan Madushanka, India's number four, Shreyas Iyer, injected late momentum into the innings with a blistering 56-ball 82. Iyer's innings included three fours and six sixes before he was dismissed by Madushanka, who claimed his first five-wicket haul in the format, finishing with figures of 5-80.

Sri Lanka got off to an ideal start when Madushanka dismissed the in-form India captain, Rohit Sharma, with the second ball of the innings. This came after the island nation won the toss and opted to bowl on a hot and humid day at the Wankhede Stadium.

Kohli then went on to score 88 off 94 balls, while Gill maintained a run-a-ball pace, reaching 92. Gill survived an early dropped catch at eight runs, and Kohli also received a reprieve at 10 during his innings.
