Reports reported that sarpanch Sushil Singh and locals Ravi Sah and Ujjwal Sharma were taken into custody by the police.

The police, however, did not find any evidence of beef possession by Naseem Quereshi, 56, a resident of Hasanpur village in Siwan district.

On Tuesday, Naseem and his nephew Firoz Qureshi were heading to Jogia village in Saran district to visit their relatives when they were blocked by an angry mob on the suspicion that they had beef in one of their bags.

Jogia resides in the jurisdiction of Rasulpur police station. Firoz managed to flee, but unfortunately Naseem was not as lucky. The mob is said to have assaulted him before handing him over to the police, who then took him to a medical facility. Nonetheless, he succumbed during his treatment, authorities have stated.

Locals intercepted Firoz and Nazeem near a mosque, causing a heated argument in which Firoz managed to escape. The crowd allegedly beat Nazeem with sticks, later handing him over to the police in Rasulpur village (Saran). He was then taken to a government hospital, however, he did not survive treatment - this was according to Gaurav Mangla, Superintendent of Police (SP), Saran who spoke to PTI.

The SP informed PTI that three individuals have already been held for mob lynching and a thorough search is underway to apprehend other perpetrators. The police are conducting an extensive investigation into the incident.
