Ghaziabad. Smoke started emanating from a battery in coach number D-5 of Gomti Express going from Lucknow to Delhi when it overheated. The railway team brought the incident under control before the fire broke out. Due to this the train remained standing at the station for 32 minutes. Passengers were troubled by coughing due to the smoke.Gomti Express going from Lucknow to Delhi reached platform number four of Ghaziabad railway station seven minutes before its scheduled time on Sunday. When the train stopped, smoke was seen rising from under the D-5 coach. The railway employees present there informed the officials about this. Railway officials, RPF and C&W (cabbies and wagon) department personnel rushed to the spot. The staff of C&W department controlled the rising smoke with the help of fire extinguishers before the fire broke out by removing the fuse. After the smoke stopped, the train was sent to New Delhi.Train arrived before time:
GOMTI EXPRESS reaches GHAZIABAD JN at 02:17 min. On Sunday, the train reached Ghaziabad Junction at 02:10 minutes, seven minutes ahead of schedule. Passengers were alighting from the train when the train stopped, when smoke was seen rising from the battery chamber. The train was flagged off at 02:42 after all technical checks.
Cough caused by smoke:
RPF jawans started removing the passengers present inside and outside the train from the smoke. Meanwhile, the passengers started coughing due to the smoke spreading in the air. Passengers protected themselves from the smoke by keeping handkerchiefs, cloths etc. over their mouths.
