Process to check income tax refund status online

Tax filing season has just ended and if you have a refund due from the government department which is due to higher tax payment/ TDS deductions than the actual ascertained tax liability, you may follow the below process to check your income tax refund status online.

Tax assessee needs to go to the NSDL website https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/servlet/RefundStatusTrack, herein on the home page, you will find the tab saying Click to check status for PAN. Click on the option as asked.

On the next page, taxpayer will be asked his or her PAN No., Assessment year and Captcha Code

Next you will have to click on Proceed.

Your ITR refund status will be shown to you.

As per the NSDL site, Refunds are being sent in following two modes:

RTGS / NECS: To enable credit of refund directly to the bank account, Taxpayer's Bank A/c, MICR code/IFSC code of bank branch and correct communication address is mandatory.

Paper Cheque: Bank Account No and correct address is mandatory.

Taxpayers can view status of refund 10 days after their refund has been sent by the Assessing Officer to the Refund Banker.

ITR Refund processed by the dept. but still not received by you: Here's why
There can be a case when your tax refund is processed by the Income tax department but the same is not credited into your bank account by the issuing banker (State Bank of India), So, herein as a recourse you should verify the linked bank account with your income tax database. There could be multiple bank accounts fetched by the income tax portal against your PAN and you need to enable as well as pre-validate a specific bank account to receive the refund amount.
