Implementation of new Liquor Policy by Chief Minister Kejriwal responsible for sharp 41% rise in crimes against women in Delhi—Ch. Anil Kumar

NEW DELHI, August 31, 2022—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that the liberalized Liquor Policy was the main reason for the sharp 41 per cent rise in crimes against women, and 26 per cent rise in crimes against senior citizens, as per the National Crime Records Bureau report. He said that the heavy rebates on liquor bottles attracted the unemployed youth into liquor addiction, and forced them into crimes, with women and old becoming their easy targets.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that Delhi Congress had warned when the new liquor policy was implemented by Excise Minister Manish Sosodia at the behest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, that it will create unrest and lawlessness, and adversely impact housewives and women, and that crimes against women will rise. He said that the availability of liquor till 3 a.m not only created violence on the streets, but also at homes, as the unemployed youth, who became victims of the liquor traders offering heavy discounts on bottles, got addicted, and indulged in violence.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Kejriwal Government had offered free ride for women in DTC buses to get their votes before the last Assembly elections, but after coming to power again, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did them the most harm when he sold out the liquor trade to private cartels in collusion with his Deputy and Excise Minister Manish Sisodia, after taking heavy commissions from the liquor mafia, for which Sisodia has been facing a CBI probe. He said that the BJP had coined a slogan “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” on September 15, 2019 on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, but Amit Shah’s Delhi Police has failed to prevent crimes against women in Delhi.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Kejriwal Government squandered the tax payers’ money by convening Special Session of the Assembly for three days, but did not answer the corruption charges in the liquor scam, and the class rooms construction scam. He said that Kejrwal and Sisodia tried to divert attention by trading charges and counter charges with the BJP MLAs, who were then expelled, for the AAP to have a free run in the Assembly.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that the BJP had kept quiet when the Kejriwal Government unilaterally implemented the new liquor policy while the Delhi Congress held relentless agitations, and Delhiites are paying a heavy price for Kejriwal’s corruption and misdeeds, as women’s safety has been heavily compromised.
