In Gyanpur, a vaccination campaign is underway to protect animals from lumpy throat disease during the monsoon season. A total of 22 teams are working across the district for this initiative. So far, 2,95,552 animals have been vaccinated against lumpy throat disease, with a target of vaccinating 3,32,000 animals in total.

The district has three permanent and 28 temporary cow shelters housing about 8,000 cattle. Additionally, around 3,24,000 animals are kept by farmers in villages. The incidence of lumpy throat disease tends to increase during the rainy season, as certain grasses that grow during this time can be harmful to animal health.

The acidic elements present in the grasses can lead to lumpy throat disease, causing weakness in the animals. To prevent this, large-scale vaccinations are conducted every year. This year's campaign began on July 15, and so far, 2,95,000 animals have been vaccinated. The department is surveying and contacting farmers to vaccinate any remaining animals.

Dr. Vinod Yadav from the Gyanpur Animal Hospital stated that the vaccine for lumpy throat disease is administered free of charge by veterinary workers visiting homes. Vaccination is being carried out by 22 teams, and this vaccine is given to cattle once a year. After vaccination, the animals do not contract lumpy throat disease.
