No surgery, no equipment, this is a bandage trauma center

Bhadohi 3 september:-(desk) Despite being renamed twice, the Aurai Trauma Center has not seen an increase in facilities beyond basic bandaging. In the event of accidents on the highway, patients do not have access to essential equipment or an operation theater in this so-called modern trauma center for immediate treatment. Although doctors are present, their effectiveness is undermined by the lack of necessary equipment, rendering their deployment pointless.

Patients are not benefiting from the only trauma center in the district located along the Varanasi-Prayagraj highway in Aurai. Despite two foundation stones being laid for the trauma center, facilities have not improved to date. An investigation by Amar Ujala on Monday revealed that essential equipment such as ultrasound machines, CT scans, and C-arm machines were absent.

Seven doctors were assigned to operate the hospital, but there is no specialist available to treat severe head injuries. The trauma center lacks an operation theater, which is crucial for treating critically injured patients. The facilities available are similar to those found in a Community Health Center (CHC), including a portable X-ray machine, which only displays results on a computer but does not provide printed reports. There are three ECG machines, but due to the absence of a specialist, they remain unused.

Among the seven doctors stationed at the hospital, there is one surgeon, two orthopedic doctors, and one anesthetist. However, the lack of equipment limits their capabilities. There is also no pharmacist available to dispense medication to injured individuals. Six staff nurses and four ward boys are employed on a contractual basis, but there are no security guards present.

The trauma center's building was inaugurated in 2016 by the then MLA Madhubala Pasi, and it was named at that time. Construction began in 2019, and on November 6, 2021, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath virtually inaugurated the building. A month ago, the current MP, Dr. Vinod Bind, also inaugurated the facility along with its naming.

The trauma center has begun operations, providing health services with the existing resources, and additional equipment has been requested from the government. - Dr. S.K. Chak, CMO Bhadohi.
