Man Arrested in Maharajganj for Attempted Vehicle Smuggling to Nepal

Maharajganj 07 September (desk):-In a major crackdown on cross-border vehicle theft, the Maharajganj police on Saturday arrested a man involved in smuggling stolen motorcycles to Nepal. Acting on a tip-off, the Thuthibari police apprehended the suspect during a routine patrol. The man, identified as Jitendra Sahani from Chainpur village, was caught with a stolen bike, and further investigation led to the recovery of four more motorcycles hidden in a sugarcane field. Sahani had been operating a network of bike thefts, altering number plates, and selling the stolen vehicles across the Nepalese border.

The arrest occurred late Thursday night at Khesarha Farm Chauraha, when police stopped Sahani for questioning. Upon searching him and the motorcycle, they discovered discrepancies in the bike’s registration, which raised suspicions. Under intense interrogation, Sahani admitted that the motorcycle was stolen. He then led the police to a field where he had hidden four more bikes, all of which had tampered registration numbers. The police seized ₹16,000 in cash, a master key used for breaking locks, and two mobile phones from the suspect.

Sahani confessed to his involvement in a larger smuggling ring that specialized in selling stolen vehicles to Nepal after disguising them with fake number plates. The police used the e-challan app to verify that all the recovered bikes had false registration numbers, confirming the extent of his criminal activities. Authorities are now investigating whether Sahani had accomplices and are working to dismantle the entire network involved in these cross-border crimes.

Sahani has a criminal history, with multiple cases filed against him in Maharajganj and nearby districts. His arrest is seen as a significant victory in the fight against vehicle smuggling in the region. The police have registered a case against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and presented him before the court, where he was remanded to judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts underway to track down other members of the smuggling ring.
