New Delhi: Samajwadi Party founder and patron Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away at the age of 82. He breathed his last at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. On August 22, he was admitted to the hospital after complaining of shortness of breath and low blood pressure. His health was not improving and on the night of 1 October he was shifted to the ICU, where a panel of doctors was treating him. SP President Akhilesh Yadav confirmed the father's death. He said, 'My respected father and everyone's Netaji is no more.' The body of Mulayam Singh Yadav will be taken to Saifai for the last glimpse.

Earlier, Sadhna Gupta, the second wife of Mulayam Singh Yadav, died in July this year. He died during treatment at a private hospital in Gurugram due to lung infection. His first wife Malti Devi passed away in 2003. Malti Devi was the mother of Akhilesh Yadav. Mulayam Singh Yadav was born on 22 November 1939 in Saifai village of Etawah district in the farmer family of Murti Devi and Sugar Singh Yadav. He was younger than Ratan Singh Yadav and elder than Abhayram Singh Yadav, Shivpal Singh Yadav, Rajpal Singh and Kamala Devi among his five siblings. Professor Ramgopal Yadav is his cousin.
