Wall collapse at godown in outer Delhi’s Alipur kills five

Five bodies were recovered by the fire department after the wall of a godown under construction in outer Delhi’s Alipur area collapsed a little after noon on Friday. Delhi Fire Service (DFS) personnel said around 15 people were injured while several more are feared trapped under the debris. The DFS said they received a call around 12.40 pm regarding a collapse in Alipur’s Bakoli area. Four fire tenders were subsequently rushed to the site.

Hearing a petition filed by a 25-year-old unmarried woman for termination of about 24 weeks pregnancy, the Delhi High Court on Friday asked her to not abort the fetus and instead give birth to it and then give it up for adoption. The court said the termination at this stage will virtually amount to killing the child.

To increase efficiency and streamline work, the Delhi Traffic Police has divided its department staff into teams to look into traffic regulation, enforcement and prosecution, said officials Thursday. To this end, 450 body cameras and 700 bikes have been issued to the unit in charge of prosecution and enforcement to help them catch people who are speeding or not wearing seat belts and other such offences. The cameras are attached to the uniform and are mandatory for traffic personnel as per ministry guidelines, said police.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government on Thursday celebrated ‘Happiness Utsav’ marking the fourth anniversary of its Happiness Curriculum for schools. “Happiness Classes have brought a pathbreaking change in students’ mindset. Through the Happiness Utsav, we will teach lakhs of Delhiites to lead happy lives. Happiness Curriculum has seen a tremendous journey in the last four years. Students’ focus on studies has been increasing and the children are stress-free,” Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said.
