Sarora, with a population of around 1,550, is located near the borders of Muzaffarnagar and Meerut. The village, which has a mixed population of Thakurs, Pals, and Brahmins, boasts two temples and both primary and upper-primary schools. The village’s notable feature is its longstanding tradition of resolving disputes internally. For the past 20 years, no significant disputes have reached the police, as local elders effectively mediate and resolve conflicts within the community.

The tradition of peace in Sarora dates back to an incident 23 years ago when a fight between two groups resulted in the death of a person named Pramod. The tragedy led to a period of mourning and prompted the village to reconsider its approach to handling disputes. Following the incident, the village elders organized a meeting to establish guidelines for preventing future conflicts and ensuring that disputes were resolved within the community. This proactive approach has since kept major issues away from the police and maintained a peaceful environment.

Local officials and community members view Sarora as a model of communal harmony. They commend the village for its ability to handle conflicts internally and for fostering a spirit of cooperation among its residents. CO Vijay Chaudhary of Badaut has highlighted Sarora’s approach as exemplary and has encouraged other villages to adopt similar practices to enhance communal peace and reduce the incidence of disputes reaching legal authorities.
