The graph of death of about 1.5 people in road accidents every year in the country has raised the concerns of the government. Manthan is going on at every level to reduce road accidents. Due to this concern, a strategy has been prepared to have separate 'two wheeler lanes' on high speed routes like National and State Highways in urban areas. Along with this, there is also a proposal to build a cattle underpass to prevent accidents due to animals on national highways and expressways.

An expert involved in the technical session, on the condition of anonymity, said on Sunday that a draft for two-wheeler lanes on highways in urban areas is being prepared by the ministry. The idea is to include rural areas as well in this draft. He said that the three countries vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia have two-wheeler lanes on all major routes. Two wheelers account for 80 percent of the total number of vehicles in these countries. The situation is more or less the same in India as well. India currently has around 300 million vehicles plying on the roads, of which between 70 and 80 per cent are two-wheelers. Two wheelers account for 40 percent of the total accidents in India. In such a situation, preparations are being made to make two wheeler lanes to reduce the loss of life in road accidents.
