DISMISSED DELHI POLICE CONSTABLE ARRESTED FOR COMMITING CYBER FRAUD ON THE PRETEXT OF MONEY TRANSFER*

ACCUSED NAMELY ROHIT WAS ARRESTED AFTER A COMPLAINT WAS RECEIVED IN CYBER NORTH POLICE STATION ALLEGING CHEATING BY AN UNKNOWN UNIFORMED TRAFFIC POLICE CONSTABLE ON THE PRETEXT OF MONEY TRANSFER THROUGH UPI FROM A SHOPKEEPER IN MAJNU KA TILA

•THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE ACCUSED WAS A CONSTABLE IN DELHI POLICE AND WAS DISMISSED FROM SERVICE IN 2021.

THE ACCUSED WAS PREVIOUSLY INVOLVED IN 05 CRIMINAL CASES OF SIMILAR NATURE.

Continuing the drive against Cyber fraudsters, who were duping gullible citizens a dedicated team of Cyber Police Station North District comprising of SI Rohit, SI Prem Prakash, ASI Arun and ASI Mahesh Patil, under the close supervision of Inspr. Pawan Tomar, SHO/Cyber Police Station North and guidance of Shri Ratan Lal, ACP/Opreations North District arrested a dismissed constable of Delhi Police who has been duping shopkeepers in money transfer. The accused would wear traffic police uniform to gain trust of victims and to induce them to transfer money online.

INCIDENT:
A complaint from Rahul Kumar Singh r/o Majnu Ka Tila Civil Lines, Delhi was received in Cyber Police Station North, wherein he alleged that a person wearing uniform of Delhi Traffic Police came to his cyber café at Majnu Ka Tila, Delhi and requested him after showing some personal exigency to transfer Rs 16,000/- in his Phonepe UPI ID in return of Cash payment. The complainant transferred Rs 16,000/- from his Phonepe UPI ID after which alleged Rohit left his shop without paying in cash. Subsequently, a Case vide FIR No. 72/2022 dated 30.07.2022 u/s 420 IPC was registered at Cyber Police Station North and investigation was carried out.
OPERATION:
During investigation, the CCTV footage of the Shop and UPI ID details were analysed. The traffic police staff of area was also shown CCTV footage of the accused person. The mobile numbers connected with the UPI IDs were also obtained from concerned bank. Based on technical analysis of CDRs, scanning of CCTV footage and manual information the accused was identified as Rohit Dalal, age-28 years. It was also revealed that the accused was dismissed from Delhi Police in 2021 due to his indulgence in similar cheating cases. Subsequently the police team arrested the accused from his residence at Bahadurgarh, Haryana on 29.07.2022.

INTERROGATION:
The interrogation of accused Rohit revealed that how a constable became an addict of online cricket betting and spoiled his life. The accused disclosed that he had joined Delhi Police as Constable in the year 2016 and while he was posted in Battalion, he was introduced to an online betting app Dream11. He initially started staking on small amount, but gradually he became addict to online betting. He would spend all his salary on betting and soon his savings were also vanished. Then he sought financial loan from his colleagues and relatives by showing financial hardship and then lost debt money too. Unable to pay the debt, the accused indulged in cyber frauds. Subsequently, he was dismissed from service in the year 2021 while he was posted in Traffic Police. Even after his dismissal he would wear police uniform and would dupe people.

DETAIL OF ACCUSED PERSON:
Rohit Dalal r/o Mandhothi Tehsil Bahadurgarh, District Jhajhar Haryana, age-28 years. (Previously found involved in 05 cases of cheating registered at police Stations Ashok Vihar, Adarsh Nagar, Baba Haridas Nagar and Jahangirpuri, Delhi).
